Muhammad Ali Rehman

I build robots, run events and start things that outlast me.

I'm Muhammad Ali Rehman, a student from Lahore. Most of my time goes into robotics: my team came 58th in the world at the WRO International Final and then won Pakistan the next year. The rest goes into The Tomorrow Project, the NGO I started to put Arduino kits in front of kids who never had one, and into events, from school competitions to concerts.

World Robot Olympiad

RoboMission Senior, 2025 and 2026

WRO gives you a table, a mission and a robot that has to do it alone. No remote, and no second chances once it starts. In 2025 my team, LGS Def Team Alpha, came 4th in Pakistan and went to the International Final in Singapore. That season, under the theme The Future of Robots, 4,500 Senior teams entered RoboMission worldwide, around 13,500 participants. We finished 58th in the world, the highest-ranked team from South Asia, with a Bronze award.

In 2026 we won the national round outright and qualified for a second International Final, in Puerto Rico.

Music, events and DJing

The part of my life that happens after dark

I work backstage as a management assistant for Hasan Raheem's team and the Thikaana collective. At Thikaana Live I handled stalls, lighting and where the flexes went, and through it I got to know people at Ticketwala and eventnm. I also ran a three-day athletics event for about 300 delegates.

On my own time I DJ, and I play guitar. I taught myself both from YouTube. The video is my favourite song, Laiyaan Laiyaan by Saad Sultan. I'm on lead, on the floor, with my friend's mum singing. Only my guitar went into the recording.

NERC and Headstart

National Engineering Robotics Contest, NUST, and the Headstart School Robotics Competition

NERC is where my Arduino line followers grew up. In 2024 three of them made the national top 16 in Ready to Race, and in the same contest we won the Modular School category. In 2025 my team came back and won Ready to Race. A line follower is a balancing problem on wheels: too aggressive and it wobbles off the track, too gentle and it misses the corner.

That February, at Headstart, I came home with seven trophies from one day across five categories, including Drone Line of Sight with a drone I built.

ARSSDC and ISSDC

Asian Regional and International Space Settlement Design Competitions, 2026

You get a brief for a settlement in space for thousands of people, a few days, and a team of strangers organised as a company. Then you defend the design to judges. My company was Vulture Aviation. We were 1st runners-up at the Pakistan qualifier and runners-up at the 22nd Asian Regional in Bangkok. In the resubmission round we came 1st in Asia, ahead of teams from India, Singapore and China, and went on to the world final in Florida.

At the final I designed a personal device for every settler, covering internal and external communication and the emergency protocols. The video is me answering the judges on it.

Entrepreneurship

KGES, PYET and Aitchison Business Concept, mostly won at the negotiating table

I was made President of Entrepreneurship three days before KGES. There wasn't time to prepare the way other teams had, so we split the work and argued through every case. We won Best Team, and I won the Negotiation Conclave.

Negotiation keeps coming up. At the Pakistan Youth Entrepreneurial Tournament 2025 I won Negotiation Nexus and finished as a Top 5 Performer. At Aitchison Business Concept XII my team won Investomania, and I got a Distinction in chess.

There was nothing at school that taught robotics from zero, so I wrote a proposal and started an O Level society: LEGO EV3 first, then Arduino, sensors and a Bluetooth car. In 2026 I started Lahore's first FPV racing camps to train our NERC drone team, and I now lead the A Level society.

The Tomorrow Project

A student-run STEM NGO I founded in 2024

When I moved from simple circuits to microcontrollers I was completely lost, and there was nobody to ask. Most kids in Lahore never get as far as the circuits. So I started an NGO to hand them the kit and stay in the room while they work it out.

With Next Generation Pakistan we ran a 15-day robotics camp at Wahadat School for Boys. Most of the students had never seen an Arduino. By the end they had built and coded their own cars and fought them out in a sumo ring for a trophy. We also ran science sessions there, and a robotics workshop at Sweet Care Home with Maanzil Parvaaz. Two fundraisers, a bonfire and game night and a card night, raised over PKR 100,000 for kits.

My FPV drone

Six seconds, then two years

The first time my drone flew, it stayed up for six seconds, crashed and burnt its speed controller. The second version burnt one too, and I gave up for five months. When I came back I found the real problem: the flight controller wasn't distributing power properly. I rebuilt it a third time from my own savings. It took 3rd nationally in Line of Sight drones at NERC 2026, and now I teach FPV at school.

About me

I’ve never been very good at accepting “because that’s how it works” as an answer.

That question, why?, is what pulled me into engineering. What started with Arduino projects and taking things apart grew into competitive robotics, autonomous systems, FPV drones, and learning by building. I learn best by turning an idea into hardware, seeing where it fails, understanding why, and building it better.

A lot of my learning has come from things going wrong.

Burnt ESCs, unstable robots, failed mechanisms, and drones that refuse to fly have taught me to troubleshoot instead of giving up. Along the way, I’ve taught myself electronics, soldering, flight controllers, control systems, programming, and how different parts of a machine work together.

That curiosity eventually took me into real engineering environments.

In 2026, I completed internships at Advanced Aerodynamics & Yaw Zenith (AAYZ) and Kalam4Solutions, working with FPV and UAV development, including drone integration, flight controllers, FPV systems, testing, troubleshooting, calibration, and programming.

Competition gave me a much bigger stage to apply what I build.

I’m a 3x national robotics winner and represented Pakistan at the World Robot Olympiad 2025 in Singapore, where my team earned a WRO Bronze Award, ranked #58 globally, and became the top ranked team from South Asia. In 2026, I also competed internationally in aerospace and space settlement design, becoming an ISSDC finalist and competing at Kennedy Space Center and Disney’s Pop Century Resort in Orlando, Florida.

I also wanted other students to have the opportunities that technology gave me.

Through The Tomorrow Project, I’ve worked to give underprivileged students access to STEM and hands on robotics by holding fundraisers and camps. I’ve also founded and led a school robotics society to help students build, compete, and discover engineering for themselves.

Now I want to learn how to make machines more autonomous.

I want to explore Robotics, Mechatronics, Automation, Autonomous Systems, Embedded Systems, Control Systems, UAVs, and Drone Design. I’m especially interested in how sensing, software, electronics, mechanics, and control can come together to make machines that can perceive, decide, and act with less human intervention.

Still asking why.
Still building the answers.
